Bruna’s research looks at the urban humanitarian governance of refugee housing and settlements in times of polycrisis. Her case studies comprise the city of Beirut, Lebanon, and the UNHCR Refugee Settlement "15 avril" in the town of Bétou, Republic of Congo. The research and case studies are linked to the two following projects:
- Sustainable Housing in Urban Humanitarian Crises (2023-2026, SNF-funded, in collaboration with the Beirut Urban Lab and the Instituto Pensar in Bogota)
- Flood Risk Mitigation in Humanitarian Settlements (2021 – 2024, in collaboration with UNHCR and SDC through the Geneva Technial Hub)
Bio
Trained as an urban planner, Bruna has worked at institutions such as the UN-Habitat New York Office, Metron Raumentwicklung, the ETHZ-Spinoff incolab, the Technical University of Berlin, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She holds an M.Sc. in Urban Ecological Planning from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and spent a semester at the American University of Beirut. She received a B.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning from the Technical University of Berlin. In addition to her work at SPUR, Bruna is an editor and writer at the Berlin-based journalistic magazine dis:orient.
