Toolbox for Flood Risk Mitigation in Refugee Settlements
The SPUR research group launches a website and toolbox for flood risk mitigation in refugee settlements, including a compendium of mitigation measures, a GIS Add-In for flood risk maps, and a participatory risk mapping methodology.
The SPUR research group launches a comprehensive toolbox for flood risk mitigation in refugee settlements on the website external page www.humanitarian-risk.org. The toolbox includes:
- A GIS tool to create flood risk maps and risk mitigation strategies (in testing phase until April 2024)
- An (online) compendium of flood risk mitigation measures
- A participatory risk mapping methodology (in progress until April 2024)
Over the past two years, researchers from the SPUR Research Group and the Chair of Planning Landscape and Urban Systems (PLUS) have collaborated with external page UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the external page Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through the external page Geneva Technical Hub. In the upcoming month, the toolbox will be tested and evaluated in refugee settlements across the globe. The toolbox is publicly available on external page www.humanitarian-risk.org.
We are thankful for the invaluable support from various collaborators throughout the working process.
