Yizhao Du joins SPUR as a visiting PhD

Yizhao Du joins the SPUR Team from the Delft University of Technology as a visiting doctoral researcher. His research primarily addresses the complexities of mega-regional governance while highlighting the importance of smaller urban entities conceptualized as secondary cities.

Yizhao Du is a Ph.D. candidate at the Urbanism Department, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology (starting in 2021). Prior to this, he graduated cum laude with a Master’s in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences from the same department. His research primarily addresses the complexities of mega-regional governance while highlighting the importance of smaller urban entities conceptualized as secondary cities. On this basis, he emphasizes the role of spatial planning as a coordinating tool in response to inter-city unevenness by exploring the challenges and opportunities of secondary cities for a more integrated regional system. His work has been published in leading journals in urban research fields, such as CITIES, and he is also a reviewer of journals such as REGIONAL STUDIES. Yizhao Du is currently a visiting Ph.D. at Spatial Development and Urban Policy, ETH Zürich, until April 2025.
