Dr. Yue ‘Gurt’ Ge joins the SPUR team

Dr. Yue ‘Gurt’ Ge will join SPUR as a Visiting Professor from April to June 2025 collaborating with Dr. David Kaufmann on a comparative study, entitled “Equitable Housing Resilience to Extreme Heat in Orlando and Zurich”, an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.  

Dr. Ge is Associate Professor in the external page School of Public Administration, Secondary Joint Faculty in the external page Resilient, Intelligent and Sustainable Energy Systems (RISES) Center, Faculty Co-lead of the external page Urban Resilience Initiative (URI), and Faculty Fellow of the external page Faculty Cluster Initiative (FCI) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. He studies smart communities and urban resilience through public-private partnerships from an interdisciplinary and community-engaged perspective. He has been involved as a PI or Co-PI on over $5 Million in sponsored research. Recent projects include risk communication enhanced by advanced IT and AI and community partnerships (external page NSF Smart & Connected Communities), urban resilience and education hubs (external page NSF Civic Innovation Challenge), and modeling uncertainty in hurricane evacuation decision making (external page NSF Hazards SEES). He received an early career award from the external page Early Career Faculty Innovators Program at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). He is a recipient of the 2022 UCF Reach for the Stars Award, 2022 Excellence in Mentoring Postdoctoral Scholars, Early Career Faculty Award, and 2024 Faculty Sabbatical Award. He is an active UCF faculty representative in the steering committees for community resilience planning and management with the City of Orlando and Orange County.
